Sexual predators surf chat rooms and social networking sites actively engaging young people and convincing them to divulge information or worse yet send photos of themselves. This process does not happen overnight and can take months even years to occur. It's imperative for parents to follow basic safety tips which include: placing the computer in a common area of the home, encourage your child not to post or provide private information to a person they have not physically met, and never agree to meet with someone by themselves.

You've seen them on TV, advertised in the newspaper, sent to your email, and delivered with your mail. They are job offers promising you little investment and high cash rewards. All that they ask is for your personal information, usually in the form of a resume, once processed you are sent a cheque to cash, you are offered a portion to keep as payment, and then wire-transfer the remainder. What you don't realize is that the cheque is fake and you've now withdrawn and sent away your own money to a company that does not exist. To protect yourself, these are some steps that you should take:
Avoid sending personal information over the internet until you've been able to verify the company or person as being legitimate
If receiving a cheque wait until funds are confirmed by your bank before withdrawing
Be cautious of ads or job offers claiming high rewards and low risk. If that were true everyone would be doing it.
